Hi Dr Nagler,
Thank you for being such a great steady help over the years.

I have been diagnosed with muscular pain in my jaw and gums and have been recommended Botox injections for the pain. I have been managing my Tinnitus now for 25 years and am afraid the Botox may upset this balance and possibly increase my Tinnitus.

I welcome your thoughts on this as the Botox will take months to leave my system should this happen

Kind Regards

Hello Martina -

In my opinion it is highly unlikely that the Botox injections will have an adverse effect on your tinnitus. Obviously nobody can offer any 100% guarantees about this sort of thing, but I think it would be quite reasonable to have the injections as recommended by your doctor.

Hope this helps.

Do you mind if I chime in here?  I have had tinnitus for the past 5 of 6 years and have been receiving Botox injections in the left side of my neck (to counter radiation-induced fibrosis) for the past 18 months. I do not believe the botox has affected the tinnitus at all. It has helped counter the tightness in my neck, though.

Thank you for submitting your post with your comments about tinnitus and Botox. I am allowing it to appear here for two reasons ...

The first reason is because I sincerely appreciate your interest in this site, and I want you to know it.

And the second reason is to point out to you (and everybody else who might be reading through this thread) that your post - as thought-provoking as it might be - is precisely the sort of thing I want to avoid. This site is strictly a Q&A site. Specifically, it is a site where folks who have questions about tinnitus and related conditions can get straightforward answers from me regarding the issues that concern them. This board is not a tinnitus discussion site; there are a number of them on the web, and I have no interest in adding to the mix.

Please take no offense. I just wanted to clarify what this site is all about since of late I have had to reject a increasing number of very nice respectful posts (like yours) that are simply not consistent with the mission of this board.

All the best -

Stephen M. Nagler, M.D.
