Dr. Nagler,

I have been a music lover all my life.  I have had music playing in the car, at my desk, with earbuds, on the plane - everywhere and as often as possible.  Not too loudly, but not too softly, either.  I'm 60 years old.

I didn't attend many live concerts, but when I did, I always tried to use earplugs of some kind because I didn't like the ringing in my ears afterward. Ironically, I have it most of the time now.

Do, do you think that the tinnitus I am experiencing might be the accumulative result of music listening?  I guess a related question might be, do many rock musicians experience tinnitus?

Thank you for providing this wonderful forum.

There are indeed a number of rock musicians who experience tinnitus. Pete Townshend, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Ossy Osbourne, and Jeff Beck immediately come to mind. But as to whether your tinnitus is related to your being a music lover, that really depends on the loudness of the music to which you have exposed over time rather than the mere fact that you have been listening.

All the best -
