Hi Dr. Nagler: how are you ? I hope you are doing very well. First of all, thank you so much for helping many people with your valorous opinion. I have been taking Betahistine for 4 months because my ENT told me it could help me with hyperacusis. Coincidentally or not, my pains caused by hyperacusis are gone. Pharmacological tests on animals demonstrate that betamethasic dihydrochloride improves blood circulation of the inner ear, probably by relaxing action on the pre-capillary sphincters of the inner ear microcirculation. Beta-thistine has also been shown to increase cerebral blood flow in humans. I would like to stop take Betahistine because I don't know if it responsible to my ear pain are gone or not. I would like to hear your opinion about it, please. Thank you so much for your time ! Luis Gustavo

Hello Luis... and thank you for your question.

I am unaware of any reliable and verifiable studies suggesting that betahistine has a role in the treatment of hyperacusis. Clearly your ENT felt it was indicated in your particular case - so he or she would be in a much better position than I regarding whether or not to discontinue it.

Wish I could be of more help. Sorry.
