Hello Dr Nagler,
Hope all is well. I wanted to ask you about your beginning journey with tinnitus and how you indicated that you were basically bedridden with the noise and needed meds to assist you. Was there any point in the beginning of your tinnitus that any hour or day you felt ok? Or at times did you notice you weren’t reacting to the noise? Maybe doing something with the kids, talking to your wife, etc. secondly, I think you said it took over a year for you to habituate, when during that period did you start trt? I think you indicated before that you tried other methods before trt. Lastly, If trt didn’t exist during your journey, do you think you would of habituated on your own? Thxs!

That was a particularly bad time in my life, Gilly. I wrote an article or two about it a while back, but I really do not like to think about it much.

We are talking here about 1994. I think it took a couple of weeks before I realized what I was up against. But once that happened, it seems that my tinnitus sucked all the air out of my life. From a logical standpoint, there must have been at least a few brief moments when I felt (sort of) OK, but I honestly cannot recall ever not feeling totally horrible back then.

Right. I think I started TRT some nine or ten months into my tinnitus ordeal.

Well, TRT (which took me another 12-14 months or so) is certainly not the only path to habituation. But I feel that without knowledgeable and experienced professional help of some sort, things would have been tons more difficult for me - and they were tough enough as is.

Anyway, like I said, I really do not care to think about it.
