Dear dr. Nagler,

I have Tinnitus for a month now due to stress and i have a anxietydisorder. I can block the noise when i press my finger on my ear. Sometimes not but most of the time. I also experience that the sound alterate when i listen on hour or so to it, and its deep in my ear. I am very anxious about it because this is different then my other noises i some times have. Do you think that this type of noise can dissapear again? In 2005 i have had also a bout of Tinnitus due to loud noises, but then it went away because i had an anxietyissue with something else and didn't paying attention anymore. I have seen a specialist a couple of days ago and there is nothing wrong with my ears. The whole situation is overwhelming now and i am very anxious the whole time, because i cant cope with this. I will start therapy soon, but is there a change that this noise goes away again? Thanx for your time.

Kind regards Soep

Hello Soep -

Sure, there is a very good chance that your tinnitus will resolve on its own. See in particular "Message Number Two" in the Tinnitus 101 article I wrote a few months ago.

All the best with it.

Also when it is a different noise then the noise in 2005? I find it curious that the tinnitus is gone when i press my finger in or on my ear. That makes me very anxious because i think that it will never leave me.

Soep, I honestly do not know of a way to predict whether tinnitus that has been present for a month will or will not resolve. I do think that trying to "figure out" your tinnitus is generally a rather fruitless endeavor.
